Clowns are very common with birthday parties, especially those parties the first few years of ones life. We wanted to do something a little different incorporating clowns into the food display at a party.
To be honest I gave my Little Chefs free reign of the craft room to create whatever type of clown they wanted to create. I gave them the basic idea and helped with the construction and then I didn’t see them for at least 30 minutes. When I went to check on them they were busily working and helping each other! Oh how I love to see that!
Clown Serving Plate
Ingredients:
- 2 paper plates
- scissors
- stapler
- craft items of your choice such as; yarn, paint, ribbon, markers, glue, tape, googly eyes…whatever you have on hand
Directions
- Cut a slit from the outside of one plate into the inner circle. Cut around the inner circle following the line that is already there until 1.5 inches from the center. Repeat on the other side. Now the inner circle should be “hanging on” by 3 inches. The inner circle will become the face. The outer circle will become the collar of the clown.
- Place the plate upside down on a table. Fold up the inner circle (face) so it stands up on its own.
- Get creative! Using whatever materials you have on hand create a clown face.
- When your clown face is complete take your second paper plate and place it on your work surface as if you were eating off of it. Place the “clown” plate on top. This plate should be upside down. Using the stapler, staple around the edges connecting the two plates together.
- Add some candy, suckers, cookies, or whatever you are serving in the inside of the clown. Enjoy your creativity!
I loved how my Little Chefs created the hair complete with ribbons or with a hat. They loved filling their clown with candy. We did make cookies today, but they were already gone so we couldn’t use them for a picture! They also loved filling their clowns with different trinkets and treasures after the food was gone. The possibilities of filling the clowns are endless!
