Easy Striped Glass Vase

Using Martha Stewart Glass Etching paint and some tape, creating a striped glass vase is easy. #MSholiday

With the holidays just around the corner decorating and gift giving ideas are in full swing. Martha Stewart Crafts has a full line of products to help. She has a multi-surface craft system which includes craft paint, glass paint, decoupage and jewelry. I used the glass etching cream to create this beautiful striped glass vase. It was simple to make and looks fantastic. It can be used not only for the next upcoming holiday’s but as a vase filled with your favorite flowers.

Materials

  • Martha Stewart Glass Etching kit with brush
  • Glass vase
  • Tape
  • Rotary Cutter
  • Rotary Mat and Guide
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Cotton Ball

The first step is to clean your vase with a cotton ball filled with rubbing alcohol as described by the back of the Martha Stewart Glass Etching Paint bottle to remove all residue.

Next I used a rotary  mat, guide and cutter to cut the tape into 1/2″ strips. To make the tape more manageable to handle I cut the tape into 12″ long strips. I stacked three 12″ long strips on top of each other. Using my guide I cut the tape into three 1/2″ wide x 12″ long strips.

When placing the strips on the vase remember wherever the tape is covering will remain shiny. The exposed glass will end up with the frosted appearance. I created 3 continual lines  up the vase. Whenever I ran out of tape I overlapped a little with the new piece and continued up the vase. To finish it off I taped diagonally across all three lines to get the same angle.

Using the paint brush that comes with the Martha Stewart Glass Etching kit add an even layer of cream over the exposed areas. Be sure you have all spaces covered well.

Set the timer for 15 minutes. When time is up place under running warm water to wash off the cream. Peel off the tape and you will have a beautifully etched vase.

I am a mom to Five Little Chefs who love to cook and create anything with their hands. Watching over 10 additional hands keeps me busy but is so much fun! We laugh and cry everyday, but then want to do it again the next day. That is how we know we are enjoying life!

Your vase turned out great. I’d like to do several large ones to put on our mantel to decorate for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
