Pom Pom Turkey

Do you need a craft to do on Thanksgiving day while all the food is cooking? How about this fun Pom Pom Turkey. It can also be used as a table marker to “save” their seat for later. All during dinner they will look at their Turkey and be so proud of what they have accomplished.

Materials:

scissors
hot glue (or white glue if you prefer)
craft foam – yellow and red
tan pipe cleaner
brown pom poms – 1 large, 1 medium, 2 small
2 googly eyes
feathers of different colors, about 5

Cut out the beak and the red thingy (very technical I know) out of craft foam. We drew on the foam the shape (triangle and tear drop) and then cut it out.

The next step is to glue the largest pom pom (body) to the second largest (head). On the opposite side of the head glue the two smallest pom poms for the legs.

Now to create the legs and feet from one piece of pipe cleaner. Take a deep breath because this is a little hard to explain but I added pictures to help understand this step. This is the hardest part. Fold your pipe cleaner in half and cut it. Now you have your two legs. At one end create a zig zag by folding the pipe cleaner back and forth. This will become the toes.

The first picture shows the zig zag pushed together with a “tail” and the left. That “tail” in the middle picture is starting to wrap around the leg. The third picture shows the “tail” completely wrapped around the leg. This will ensure the toes do not fall apart. Now look at the opposite end of the leg. There is a small loop with a tail wrapped around the leg just like we did with the toe.

The loop you just made on the end opposite the toes is where you want to add some glue. The loop gives more surface area to attach to the small pom poms.

Flip the turkey over and add a big line of glue. Carefully place your feathers on the glue and press. Once all the feathers are in place add some more glue just to make sure all feathers are tacked down.
For the face add two googly eyes, the yellow nose and the red thingy.
