This week we discovered a fun, safe park. If you have kids who like to run off to places you do not want them to go when you are at a park I have a perfect one for you. The Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park in Riverton, Utah has some great features! It is a great park to corral your kids because there is only one entrance/exit.
Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park
Where is it located?
12400 River Vista Dr (1000 West) in Riverton, UTAH
How much does it cost?
FREE!
Is food allowed?
Yes! This is a public park. There are 2 BBQ’s available to use. Bring your own charcoal and food of choice.
Are strollers allowed?
Yes! There is also a walking/running trail that begins just outside of the playground.
How close are the bathrooms?
Bathrooms are located just steps outside the playground area. They are flush toilets with running water, soap and a hand dryer. Boys and girls are on opposite sides of the pavillion.
Is there a picnic area?
Yes! There are two sides to the pavillion. Each side has multiple tables and a BBQ to use. Each side is available to reserve.
Are there shaded areas?
The only shade is under the pavillion.
What should I expect?
The parking lot is just steps away from the pavillion and playground. The playground has a fence around it. There is only one entrance/exit which is wide enough for two people to pass through at once. The first step is short allowing even short legs to climb up. The ground is the soft coushy material (what is the proper name? I actually prefer this type over wood chips.) There is a large grassy field beside the playground and pavillion which would be great to play ultimate frisbee or football or tag….the possibilities are endless.
Any safety concerns?
As always playgrounds are heated up by the sun and may be too hot to play on in shorts in the middle of the day. The playground is very tall. I was a little weary of my 3 year old climbing up so high. I would not feel comfortable letting my toddler go up alone. If the sprinklers are on do not drink the water because they use secondary water.
Overall opinion?
This is a perfect park for kids that bolt. It is great for a family picnic. The tables are close to the playground where the little ones can play. The older kids and adults can play in the open field close by.
Anything else I need to know?
There are only 3 park benches which I am sure will become occupied quickly. You might want to bring your own chair to sit on if you want to sit in the fenced in area. You might want a picnic blanket if your kids do better on the ground instead of a table.
