Our theme is Little Chefs CAN cook! Well…sometimes Little Chefs can cook better then Big Chefs. The other day we were busy with Little Chef extracurricular activities. Little Chef Dad was in charge of dinner. He chose Browned Butter Mizithra and Popovers. Seems pretty simple, but the popovers take time to cook.
We came back from our activities ready to eat. Little Chef Dad decided NOT to follow the recipe and use up the rest of the Mizithra because “there is no such thing as too much cheese.” Turns out there is such a thing if you do not also increase the butter. As a result was very dry.
The popovers were a hit with the Little Chefs because they love anything little and cute that comes out of the mini pan. He had SO much batter he used the regular muffin tin and the mini muffin tin. Apparently in the cookbook he was using he read down the first column which went through the entire recipe. He did not read the additional information in the next column which said if you are using a regular muffin tin HALF the recipe.
In the end, the texture was all wrong. It tasted grainy, cake like and very dense, not light and fluffy as they should be. Neither pan rose. Little Chef Dad did take the mini’s out earlier so they would not burn. The regular pan….well he went by the timer and did not check on them so the bottoms were burned.
We laughed about his lack of success as we were cleaning up. He said, “that will let me off the hook from cooking for a long time.” The Little Chefs are not ready to give up their cooking time yet so he might be able to rest for a while. Perhaps next time we have a busy night we will use the trusty crock pot instead!

You're a great mommy to teach your kids to cook. When I got married i was a pitiful cook, but all my kids know how to cook! We ♥ pop overs too! I love them best with melting butter and honey! YUM! YUM! Welcome to voiceBoks!

I love their willingness. Sometimes everyone helping causes more problems, but then we have to figure out how to solve them!

Thanks. I'm hoping having my patience tried every night, by my choice, will pay off in a few years!
