National Scrabble Day is this Saturday. Little Chef D is learning how to read. I thought it would be fun to turn reading into playing with food! I first showed her how we were going to play. I wrote a few letters with frosting on the tops of a few Vanilla Wafers. I made some words and asked her to read them. At one point we read “ad” words switching out the beginning consonant.
She had so much fun she wanted to create some words on her own. When she had plenty of wafers out (for eating) we changed the game to allow her to eat the letters once she read the word.
Little Chef H had a great time as well eating the cookies while watching her sister spell out words. This was a fun way to teach some reading skills. Learning can be fun!
