One of the most valuable kitchen tools we have encountered so far is kitchen shears. I have always read about people using them to cut chicken but I have never done this. I am always searching for easier ways for my Little Chefs to accomplish basic cooking tasks. I believe if they have the right tools to help them cut, measure, stir…..then they will be more successful in their culinary endeavors. These right tools are not going to be the ones real Chefs use, but ones that work for little hands.
Kitchen shears have been very successful for us so far. My Little Chefs have been able to cut watercress and other herbs. They are able to cut big pieces small pieces, or both! I am able to suggest cutting sizes without cringing and hoping they will not cut their precious fingers!
One draw back I have found so far is my Little Chefs believe they need to cut one tiny leaf at a time. It is hard to get them to understand stacking a bunch together and cutting them all at once.
I believe every young chefs kitchen should have a pair of Kitchen Shears. Just make sure you keep them in a safe spot to be used only for food!
