Chocolate Cake Anyone…..?!

Yes please!!! And what recipe do you ask is our favorite chocolate cake recipe?  It is the "Our Version of Nothing Bundt Chocolate Chip Cake" from the cookbook Favorite Family Recipes. It is simply delicious, and simply......simple!! We first added the cake mix, chocolate pudding, sour cream, eggs, water and oil and beat till well combined. My Little Chef B is so proud of himself that he is now able to crack and add the eggs with no help (and no shells)!       We stirred in ...

Grilling on the BBQ in the Winter…..Sure Why Not!

We thought we would mix things up a bit and make a dish that is usually prepared for summer barbeques in the WINTER! And yes, we broke out the BBQ Grill in the winter, with snow on the ground! My Little Chefs thought it was so much fun. We came across this delicious Chicken recipe when a good neighbor of mine brought us dinner one night. Our Chef Dad was out-of-town for work, and she knew that when he is out-of-town, us Chefs take a break from the kitchen and pretty much eat cereal for ...

Chocolate Filled Strawberries

For Valentine's Day we have a yummy tradition that the Little Chefs help make, EAT and share chocolate covered strawberries. This year, however, we decided to mix things up a bit and try a new take on the delicious chocolate dipped strawberry....to turn it inside out and have the chocolate on the inside, Chocolate Filled Strawberries! We thought of this idea after making our Cream Filled Strawberries.    We first had to think of a way to get the strawberries to stand up, and to be able to ...

Chocolate Dipped Hearts

Celebrating holiday's is so much fun! My Little Chefs wanted to make something that they could be creative with. We decided to make rice krispie treats, dip them in chocolate and then decorate them in their own way. The first step is to make rice krispie treats in a jelly roll pan because we didn't want them to be too thick. One trick we have is when pressing the rice krispie treats into the jelly roll pan place a piece of wax paper over the top and press on that. Using a heart cookie cutter ...

Raspberry Filled Pastries

We had a really fun time using phyllo dough for the first time with our Balsamic Strawberry Napoleons we decided to give another recipe a try! This time we thought it would be fun to roll up some of our favorite jam in the middle and top it with chocolate! I must admit phyllo dough is not the easiest for Little Chefs to work with. Ours cracked and broke a lot, the butter was not as easy to brush on as we thought, but it was still fun. The fun is really what matters for us! The first step ...

Balsamic Strawberry Napoleons

Here at our house we love balsamic vinegar and we love strawberries! Today's Balsamic Strawberry Napoleons seemed like a quick dessert idea. With the various components of this dessert it took us longer to make then anticipated.  But we learned some things, if I was making this dessert for a dinner party I would cut the strawberries and make the whipping cream ahead of time.  Little Chef H was really wanting to help with this recipe. I'm pretty sure she just wanted to sneak as many strawb...

Happy National Pie Day!!!

To help us CELEBRATE one of our favorite desserts.......we would like to share with you one of our favorite pie recipes, our Caramel Apple Pie.  We have been on a long journey to find an Apple Pie recipe that we love., and would pass the approval of Chef Dad who LOVES apple pie.  With a few tweeks of many different recipes we have created one that is our favorite and our Little Chefs enjoy making, sharing and especially eating this wonderful dessert. This recipe we made has a few twists to ...

Danish Puff Pork Chops

I remember eating Danish Puff Pork Chops when I was young. My Little Chefs enjoy this meal occasionally at family dinner with Grandma and Grandpa, cousins...the whole gang! I recently learned my Grandmother used to make this for company when my mom was little. She even made it for my other set of Grandparents when they had a meal together when my parents got engaged. This recipe has history in my family so I wanted to teach it to my Little Chefs. Making danish puff pork chops with my ...

French Baguettes

Have you ever needed some bread at the last minute to go with a meal? We do, all the time! Every recipe I have needs more then an hour from start to finish. I had the opportunity to watch the Food Nanny in person make her French Baguettes and thought, "My Little Chefs can do that!" This recipe from start to finish can be done in one hour or less! When the Food Nanny demonstrated this recipe she did not use any machine. She said when she goes into the homes of families she always teaches ...

Breaded Ranch Parmesan Chicken

We seem to have chicken at least once per week in our home. The Little Chefs like it and it seems you can make it in so many different ways. I have heard of ranch chicken before, but I have never tried it myself. I have never eaten it, nor have I made it. This seemed like a great opportunity to figure out a new recipe. One of our goals this year is to be a little more adventurous with food. Last year we definitely were with letting the Little Chefs choose the meal and execute the meal. This ...

New England Crock-Style Baked Beans

Sometime ago we were visiting my Aunt for a special occasion when we ate some really great Baked Beans! I couldn't ask for the recipe because this was a special occasion and the food was from a restaurant.  Here at home we were looking for ways to simplify our cooking, especially on the busy days so we started looking through the Better Homes and Gardens Crockery Cookbook. Every recipe is done in the crock pot. (I secretly would love to use the crock pot everyday because it seems so much ...

Mini Frittatas

During the week we do not cook hot breakfast, unless you count microwave oatmeal. On the weekends we get a little fancy with pancakes, waffles and eggs. When we found Mini Frittatas by Giada we were excited. It seemed like a perfect recipe for us. Mix the eggs and additional ingredients all in one bowl and then pour them into mini muffin tins and cook it for 10 minutes. Seemed quick and easy. The first step was to cut the ham. For some reason this day the Little Chefs were not that interested ...
