7 Different Types of Easter Scavenger Hunts

One of my favorite things about Easter is hunting for eggs. When I was young I searched for plastic eggs as well as wrapped candy and jelly beans. While Easter Scavenger Hunts are not the purpose of Easter, it is a fun tradition that I have continued with my kids. I love watching my kids become excited about the hunt before and during the easter hunt. Another way I prepare my kids to have an even better holiday is through different Easter Ideas such as a printable countdown, melted crayon eggs, and mini baskets.

On the years I have small children who didn’t quite understand how to collect Easter eggs we would practice. By the time Easter came with the real hunt, you know the one that really counts with pictures and all we were ready and it was fun. Here are some different types of Easter Egg Hunts you can do to switch things up or as a way to practice beforehand.

1. Traditional Hunt – Everyone searches for candy and eggs in a given area to put in their basket. This hunt could be done in your home or in the park.
2. Candy Trail – Hide each Easter basket. Each person has a starting point. Each person follows their own candy trail to find their Easter basket.
3. Scavenger Hunt – Give each child a list of several different types of items to hunt down (3 pink eggs, a white chocolate bunny, a egg filled with nickels, etc.) When they have completed their hunt give them the final clue to their Easter basket.  For younger kids, use pictures or drawings.
4. Personalized Eggs – Assign each child with a specific color, egg design or eggs with their initial. Each child may only collect their personalized eggs. Let them know how many they need to collect. Depending on the age of the child you can hide them in easy low places or very hard places.
5. Alphabet Hunt – Write each letter of the alphabet on different eggs. Hide all the eggs. Collect the eggs in alphabetical order starting with A and ending with Z.
6. Treasure Hunt – Each egg leads them to the next clue/egg until they find the Easter basket. A map may be used to help find the clues. This can be done as individuals or as teams.
7. Glow In The Dark – This activity is fun, but more suited for older kids. Cut glow sticks from the dollar store so they fit inside plastic easter eggs. Hide them outside. Once it is dark search for the eggs.
