Simple Yarn Art

Do you have yarn, glue, scissors and an old coloring book? If so, we have a craft for you–Simple Yarn Art! Sometimes my Little Chefs need a change when coloring so instead of crayons we choose markers. Then when they need another change we reach for the paint. Next time you have exhausted all those options pull out the yarn.

Ingredients:

• Simple line drawing in a coloring book or create your own. You do not want a lot of detail in the picture.
• Various colors of yarn
• Scissors
• Glue

Little Chef D chose a picture of a chick. She decided to start with the beak by applying glue to the entire beak area. Then she cut a piece of orange yarn and outlined the beak, then filled in the middle by continuing the circle inward.

She next chose another area of the duck, the body, and repeated the same process; glue then apply the yarn. If you cut a piece of yarn too short don’t worry just cut another piece and begin where you left off.

It is interesting to glue the yarn in different directions or patterns. I was attempting to suggest this to Little Chef D but she had to do it her way without suggestions. She did figure this out on her own at the end when she wanted the cattails to be short cut pieces of brown yarn instead of the circular pattern.

I thought Little Chef D was going to need/want help, however she wanted this to do it on her own. She did not want to take any offer of help. I was impressed at how well she was able to complete this craft on her own. Don’t be afraid to give this craft a try…your Little Chefs might just impress you like mine did.
