Pirate Games – Matching and Reasoning

Today we are sharing Pirate Games – one printable with two variations. This week we created a Pirate Menu which consisted of Walk the Plank Salmon, Sun Roasted Broccoli and Cheesy Pull Apart Sourdough Bread. We also learned how to Select, Store and Freeze Broccoli. What fun is “Talk Like A Pirate Day” next Thursday if you can’t play a game! This pirate matching game can be played in two different ways.

How to Play Pirate Games:

• Print the free printable twice so that you can play the different variations which appeal to different ages.
• Cut out all the cards on the black lines and you are ready to play.

Ways to Play:

• Matching – Place all the cards upside down in 4 rows and 4 columns. Take turns flipping over 2 cards. If the cards match you may remove the cards and try again. If the cards do not match flip the cards back over and your turn is over. This is basic recognition.
• Do They Go Together? – Play the same way as the matching game, but this time instead of looking for matches you are looking for things that relate. If the player can explain how the two items go together and it makes sense then they may remove the two cards and try again. If not, their turn is over. For example, I might say the treasure chest and the key go together because the key opens the treasure chest. I could also say the treasure chest and the map go together because the map leads a person to the treasure chest. Yes there is more then one answer if you can explain how they go together. This type of game requires more reasoning and thinking.
