All kids need to know their telephone number. You never know when they will need it. Hopefully never in an emergency, but in case they do you want them to be prepared. Active learning simply put is learning that has some action attached to it. Attaching a song to what needs to be memorized is active learning. To teach your child your phone number through music helps them learn it fast!

Teach Your Child Your Phone Number FAST!

When I taught my first kids their phone number we didn’t use area codes every day and I didn’t have a cell phone. Today I have more kids which means I’m on the go a lot more. The likelihood of them catching me at home is very slim. Now it is necessary to teach my kids both Mom and Dad’s cell phone number. We do not teach both at the same time to avoid confusion, but once mastering one number go on to the next.

I put my kids to sleep to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star when they were newborns so they all know the tune very well. Instead of singing the words you sing your phone number. This is our version, yours may be different.

222-2222 (Twinkle twinkle little star,)

222-2222 (How I wonder what you are,)

222-2222 (Up above the world so high,)

222-2222 (Like a diamond in the sky,)

222-2222 (Twinkle, twinkle little star)

As you can see the song repeats the same phone number many times. Repetition is good, but when combined with song their retention is much greater. They are able to remember their phone number faster with song then without. I have often found my little ones singing the song when they are asked to recite their phone number.

The only additional piece of information you need to teach is the area code. But chances are someone would be able to guess that if needed.
