Mini Easter Basket

Mini Easter Basket from fivelittlechefs.com A fun craft for #Easter.

A couple years ago, I believe it was, I saw a post where a pop top can was opened from the bottom. It was cleaned out, refilled and a label was put on the outside for a christmas neighbor gift. I can’t remember where I saw it, but here is another example with the instructions on the can portion. With the beginning of an idea from my mom I decided to use one of these cans I still had stashed away to turn it into an Easter basket.

Supplies:

  • can (see link above for instructions)
  • blue paper the width of the can x circumference of the can
  • brown paper 1″ x circumference of the can
  • green paper 3″ x circumference of the can
  • scissors
  • glue
  • foam chick craft kit (there are many varieties of chicks and bunnies found at the craft store)
  • foam eggs (found at the craft store)

  1. The first step is to make the handle. Take your brown piece of paper and draw black diagonal lines from the top to the bottom. Flip the paper over and draw opposite lines to create a basket weave. It is best if the pattern isn’t perfect which makes this great for little ones.

  2. Next take the green piece of paper. Fold it in half lengthwise, like a hot dog. Make narrow cuts from one end to the other for the “grass.”

  3. Glue the blue piece of paper around the can.
  4. Glue the green piece of paper around the can.
  5. Take your finger and curl out the front layer of the grass.
  6. Attach the “handle” to the top sides of the can.
  7. Attach the chick, made from your kit, to the front of the can.
  8. Attach the eggs to the sides and back of the can.
  9. Fill the can with your favorite surprise. Glue it together and give your Mini Easter Basket away as an Easter gift.

I am a mom to Five Little Chefs who love to cook and create anything with their hands. Watching over 10 additional hands keeps me busy but is so much fun! We laugh and cry everyday, but then want to do it again the next day. That is how we know we are enjoying life!
