While the cakes cooked, the Little Chefs made up the frosting. This was a different frosting then they had ever made before – it required cooking, whisking and adding other ingredients they were not used to in a regular cake frosting. They were not sure about it as they were adding in the ingredients, but in the end – they could not keep their fingers out of the mixing bowl!! They loved it!!
German Chocolate Cake Frosting

Ingredients
- 1 c butter
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 c brown sugar
- 5 egg yokes, slightly beaten
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2½ c coconut
- 2 c pecans
Instructions
- In a saucepan, add everything but the vanilla, pecans and the coconut.
- Mix over low heat until the butter is melted, stirring constantly.
- Turn to medium heat and stir for about 10 minutes to thicken.
- Remove from heat and add the vanilla, pecans, and the coconut.
- Allow to cool all the way before frosting.
